North Hills Hunt - Burwell, NE, Oct. 2-4, 2015
It's not often that Rick's off weekends coincide with a whole weekend of hunting in Burwell. It worked out this weekend though, which also happened to be his birthday. We loaded up the vehicle and the horses and drove out to Burwell on Friday. We stayed at the Rodeo Inn, which always welcomes the North Hills Hunt with a "Welcome to Burwell! Fox Hunters" on their sign. Carine rode Indie; Libby rode Zoe; Tim rode Josie; and I rode Harry Potter.
I think this was my first big hunt with Harry. He did awesome-- as always, and jumped everything with gusto. That pony never ceases to amaze me in the field. He just loves hunting, and we all had so much fun. This weekend was also the first official hunt with our new huntsman, David Kruger. Dave and his girlfriend Bre are great people.
The food is consistently delicious in Burwell, catered by the Sandstone Grill in town.
On Saturday night, we had a party at the Matranga's. I surprised Rick with a chocolate birthday cake that I had a local woman make beforehand. Libby and Tim were kind to pick it up while Carine and I went for a second round of riding that afternoon with Dolf and his hounds. We chased jack rabbits-- it was one of the most wild things I've seen. Those hounds can run, and so can Dolf and his horse. They were able to take down one jack.
Sunday was also a fun ride despite a bit of rain.
Rick took all these photos while I rode. My favorite is the photo with Tim and Libby holding hands, both their horses walking side by side, as they made their way back in after the hunt.
Great memories were made, the fall colors were beautiful and the riding was awesome.
